DSACO’s mission is to raise awareness and provide resources, as well as promote acceptance and inclusion for people with Down syndrome.
PROGRAMS:
MOMS Program – The MOMS Group at the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) provides vital support and networking opportunities for mothers of children with Down syndrome. Through monthly support meetings, guest speakers, health and wellness workshops, social outings, and online support forums, the group fosters connection and growth among its members. Mothers benefit from emotional support, shared experiences, and practical parenting advice, all within a community that understands and cares. Whether seeking advice, forming friendships, or simply finding a safe space to share, the MOMS Group is dedicated to empowering and uplifting mothers on their journey.
DADS Program – The DADS Group at the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) is a supportive community for fathers of children with Down syndrome, offering a range of programs that encourage connection, learning, and relaxation. Through regularly scheduled meetups, fatherhood workshops, recreational activities, and special father-child bonding events, the group provides a space for fathers to share experiences, relieve stress, and strengthen relationships with their children. With a focus on peer support and personal growth, the DADS Group empowers fathers to thrive in their parenting journey.
Adult Sibling Socials – The Adult Sib Socials at the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) provide social and emotional support for adult siblings of individuals with special needs. Through quarterly social events, sibling support groups, advocacy and caregiving workshops, and online forums, the program fosters a sense of community among siblings who share similar experiences. Participants benefit from connecting with peers, sharing resources, and receiving mutual support, all while gaining valuable insights into advocacy and caregiving. The Adult Sib Socials create a space where siblings can connect, learn, and grow together.
DSACO Club (Ages 22+) – DSACO Club is a lively and inclusive social group designed specifically for adults with Down syndrome aged 22 and older. This program provides a supportive and engaging environment where participants can connect with peers, share experiences, and enjoy a variety of fun activities that promote socialization and community building. Each month, the DSACO Club hosts a range of exciting events, including game nights, themed parties, creative workshops, and outings to local attractions. These activities are thoughtfully planned to foster friendships, encourage participation, and create lasting memories in a welcoming atmosphere. In addition to recreational activities, the DSACO Club focuses on personal growth and empowerment. Members are encouraged to explore their interests, develop new skills, and engage in discussions about topics that matter to them. The group also provides opportunities for participants to share their experiences, enhancing self-advocacy and promoting a sense of belonging. Led by caring staff and volunteers, the DSACO Club creates a vibrant community where adults can thrive, enjoy meaningful connections, and celebrate life together. Whether it’s through laughter, learning, or shared experiences, this group is dedicated to enriching the lives of its members and ensuring that everyone feels valued and included.
Teen Connection (Ages 13-21) – Teen Connection at the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) is designed to support and engage teenagers with Down syndrome, ages 13 to 21. The group offers peer mentoring, college, and career readiness workshops, social events like dances and outings, leadership development, and advocacy training. Participants benefit from academic support, social interaction, personal growth, and preparation for adulthood. Teen Connection helps teens build friendships, develop essential skills, and gain the confidence they need for a successful transition into adult life.
Elementary Adventure Club (Ages 5-12) – DSACO Elementary Adventure Club is an exciting program designed for children with Down syndrome in grades K-5 (approximately ages 5-12), providing them with fun, hands-on activities that encourage learning, socialization, and exploration. This club offers a variety of adventures that stimulate curiosity, build friendships, and promote developmental growth in a safe and supportive environment. Each session features activities such as arts and crafts, science experiments, outdoor play, and group games, all aimed at building teamwork, communication skills, and self-confidence. The Elementary Adventure Club is a place where children can discover new interests, develop important life skills, and, most importantly, have fun with their peers. Parents and caregivers also benefit from the program by connecting with other families in the DSACO community. With the guidance of compassionate staff and volunteers, children are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and try new things, making every adventure a rewarding and memorable experience. The DSACO Elementary Adventure Club helps children grow while making lasting friendships and enjoying unforgettable adventures!
Littles’ Launchpad (Ages 0-4) – Littles’ Launchpad at the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) is dedicated to supporting infants and toddlers ages 0 to 4, along with their parents. This program offers playgroups, early childhood education workshops, developmental milestone monitoring, parent-baby classes (including music and movement), and engaging story time sessions. Littles’ Launchpad focuses on early childhood development, parent education, and socialization, providing a nurturing environment where young children can thrive, and parents can connect and learn.
