SUMMARY:Toolbox Tuesday -
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Toolbox Tuesday on June 9th\, 2026\, at 6:00 PM on Zoom\, with Ellie Pryor\, Parent and Advocate for congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV). \nJune 9th at 6:00 PM on Zoom \nHay interpretación al español disponible. \nLearn about Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Awareness and Advocacy from Ellie Pryor\, Parent Advocate. \nBy attending via Zoom\, you can learn about Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and National CMV Awareness Month from Ellie Pryor\, Oklahoma Community Alliance Chair for the National CMV Foundation\, helping raise awareness of a condition that is a leading cause of non-genetic childhood hearing loss. \nOklahoma CMV Advocacy Community \nJune is National Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Awareness Month\, dedicated to educating the public about the most common infectious cause of birth defects in the US. Established in 2011\, this observance highlights that 1 in 5 babies with congenital CMV develops long-term health issues\, such as hearing loss. \nWhat is CMV: A common virus\, with over 50% of adults infected by age 40\, usually causing no symptoms in healthy people. \nCongenital CMV Risk: When a pregnant person contracts the virus\, they can pass it to the fetus. It is a leading cause of hearing loss\, vision loss\, and developmental delays in newborns. \nWhy June Matters: Only 9% of women are aware of CMV\, despite it being a major cause of birth defects. Awareness aims to promote prevention strategies. \nPrevention Strategies: Pregnant people should avoid contact with saliva/urine from young children (e.g.\, not sharing food\, kissing on the mouth) and wash hands frequently
